The history of the institute

Since 1928, the Norwegian Polar Institute conducted systematic surveys and scientific studies of polar regions on behalf of the Norwegian government. Today the department has about 150 permanent employees and employees on fixed term and in projects, and is an active and Environmental Institute for research, monitoring and management consulting.
