Options for students
The Institute is not an educational institution, but each year many doctoral, master's and bachelor's degree students are supervised by our researchers in these subjects. The institute contributes to administration of Norwegian polar areas, and do research on the consequences of increased human activity in these areas.
Field Activity is an important part of our research, and much time is spent on the research vessel RV «Lance» or at our stations in Svalbard or in Antarctica. Modern polar research requires a high degree of collaboration across fields, and scientists often work in interdisciplinary projects. The Polar Institute work with institutions around the world, and participate in several national and regional research projects. In 2009 three doctoral degrees, six master's degrees and one bachelor's degree was awarded with guidance from researchers at the Norwegian Polar Institute.
