Environment & climate in the Antarctic

Antarctica is the coldest, windiest and driest continent on earth. Nearly 99% of the continent is covered by an ice cap with an average elevation above sea level of about 2500 meters. The continent has an area of approx. 14 million square kilometers, an area which is enlarged to twice the winter when the sea ice extends up on 1000 km from the coast.
