US lists polar bears as threatened
On 14 May the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS), a bureau of the U.S. Department of the Interior, published its listing of polar bears as threatened under the Endangered Species Act.
The original deadline for the decision was 9 January, but the Bush administration failed to make a decision on the issue. In April, USFWS asked for a further extension of 10 weeks, but a federal judge set 15 May as the new deadline for an official decision to be made.
The decision documents are interesting, and can be found together with other relevant information at the USFWS web site.
