MSc Magnus Andersen
About me:
I have worked within marine mammal research in Svalbard and the Barents Sea since 1994, first as a graduate student and later as an employee at the Norwegian Polar Institute. I received my M.Sc. in marin zoology at the University of Tromsø in 1998 on a thesis describing population parameters of bearded seals (Erignathus barbatus). The main area of interest has since been Arctic marine mammal ecology and anthropogenic impact on populations and most of the work I have been involved in the last twelve years has included polar bears (Ursus maritimus).

Education:
1988-1991. High School (videregående skole): Realfaglinjen, Hamar Katedralskole.
1991-1994. University of Bergen, Norway (biology, chemistry and mathematics)
1994-1995. University Centre of Svalbard (UNIS). Arctic marine and terrestrial biology, environmental and resource management in the Arctic.
1995 - 1997. University of Tromsø and Norwegian Polar Institute, cand. scient student.
1998. Graduated (cand. scient) in marine biology/zoology (marine mammals) at the University of Tromsø, Norway.
Jobs:
April - October 1999. Scientific assistant at the Norwegian Polar Institute, Tromsø, Norway.
November 1999. Permanent position at the Norwegian Polar Institute. From October 2007 Chief Engineer (biologist) within the Biodiversity Section, Research Department.
