How the biodiversity benthic communities is structured in an arctic glacial fjords (BIODAFF)

The Project is conducted in Kongsfjorden, Ny-Ålesund. One object of the project is to study how the biodiversity of benthic hard-bottom communities is structured by steep environmental stress gradients in salinity, sedimentation etc. Another objective is to study the zonation of macrobenthic organisms (invertebrates, fish and kelp) on hard bottom substrates, and determine how this zonation changes longitudinally in the fjord against the general physical stress gradients. A third objective is to determine how the fish community of Kongsfjorden change from the inner to the outer fjord.

Field studies and collections will be performed by scuba divers.
