Polar operations in the Arctic

The Norwegian Polar Institute has extensive experience with large operations in harsh and challenging conditions both domestically and abroad. The Institute also offers its services to others, including freight or rental of equipment, rental of our research vessel "Lance" and facilities for visiting researchers.

Norwegian Polar Institute conducting expeditions in the context of its research activities. The Operations and logistics department is responsible for practical and technical implementation of the expeditions, and has overall responsibility for Polar Institute's research vessel "Lance".

In Svalbard, the institute has a polar research office and logistics warehouse in the research park in Longyearbyen and also runs the Sverdrup Research Station and the Zeppelin station for atmospheric research and monitoring in Ny-Ålesund. On Sverdrup station rented out office space and field equipment to researchers from Norway and other countries.
