Committee on the stratigraphy of Svalbard
SKS is an internationally-composed scientific committee, established in 1991 by the Norwegian Council of Geology through the Norwegian Committee on Stratigraphy. Its objective is to elaborate a unified, formal lithostratigraphic nomenclature for the bedrock succession of Svalbard, and to publish fully-documented unit definitions and descriptions. Work related to the post-Devonian sedimentary succession is concluded. The project currently focuses upon Devonian sediments and will soon re-initiate work on the Caledonian basement.
