The material balance and structure of selected rockglaciers on Prins Karls Forland, Svalbard
Rockglaciers located on the northwestern coast of Prins Karls Forland, Svalbard, will be investigated to calculate their volume, form and surface changes during historical time, a.o. using Digital Elevation Models (DEM), generated based on photogrammetic and surveying methods. Rockglaciers originate only in permafrost and are good indicators of the paleoclimate in the area. The project is a part of a collaboration between the Department of Geography (UIO) and University of Zürich, Switzerland, which is studying rockglaciers both on Svalbard and in the Alps to get a wider net of paleoclimatological information.
